the CPSS
The CPSS (Creative Product Semantic Scale) is an online assessment measure to be used to strengthen and develop product concepts. It is an objective descriptive assessment measure that provides measurements of the component qualities of creativity in products. The CPSS, based on a model of product creativity (the CPAM), has undergone substantial conceptual and psychometric development over a 30-year period.
The theory underlying the development of the CPSS proposes a three dimensional factorial multivariate structure of creativity in products called the Creative Product Analysis Model (CPAM). In operationalizing the major elements of this underlying theory into measurements the CPSS provides three scales or factors and nine subscales or facets. This assessment measure was developed over years of scientific empirical validation studies including reliability, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and other multivariate statistical measures to be sure that it measures what we want to know: how people perceive the new product concepts, prototypes, or finished products that you show them.
The CPSS consists of 55 items, contrasting adjectives, on Likert-type scales from 1 to 7. Users examine the product or concept description being assessed, and simply respond with the position on each item scale which most nearly represents their opinion about the product being assessed. The assessment takes about 10 minutes to complete, and has been translated from English into the French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish languages.
